What fractional CDO and CIO advisory covers
Tyson Martin steps in as an interim or fractional CISO, CIO or Chief Digital Officer when an organization needs stability fast, and stays on as an advisor when you need ongoing direction. The work is leadership and governance: clarifying decision rights, tightening governance and building execution you can inspect.
This is advisory and leadership work, not engineering delivery, tool sales or managed services. Scope is agreed up front so you know exactly what you get.
- Interim CIO or Chief Digital Officer leadership during a transition, new leadership or modernization
- Ongoing fractional leadership on a recurring basis for mid-market and growth-stage companies
- Technology and cyber risk appetite statement with a board decision-rights matrix
- Risk triage into a prioritized plan with owners and due dates
- Board and audit committee reporting, including a one-page plain-English briefing format
- AI risk governance: AI risk register, decision rights and employee AI use policy
- M&A technology and cyber due diligence, red-flag memo and post-close remediation roadmap
- Coaching and independent validation for your in-house CISO or IT leader
- Remote or on-site across the US, including Maine, Richmond VA and the Chicago area
Experience behind the advice
“We recently worked with Tyson Martin on an engagement, and it was a great experience. He helped us run a full technical audit, identified key gaps, and created a clear plan to modernize our systems and processes. Tyson is hands-on, easy to work with, and brings real technical and leadership experience to the table. He gave our team direction and helped us get organized for the next phase of growth. I highly recommend Tyson Martin to any organization looking for an experienced outside perspective to strengthen and align their technical direction.”
“Tyson's impact has been immediately clear. Before working with him, we were struggling with outdated processes that created inefficiencies across our organization, and his unbiased third party perspective helped us quickly identify issues and develop a clear, actionable plan for improvement. Based on our experience so far, I would recommend Tyson Martin to organizations seeking clarity, efficiency, and a thoughtful approach to simplifying and strengthening their operational and digital processes.”
“Tyson Martin embodies what modern boardrooms need: a leader who brings clarity, credibility, and strategic foresight to every technology conversation. Tyson is what every Board is seeking in 2025, someone who understands technology and can interpret and speak to Boards with a message Boards can understand. In doing so, Tyson doesn't just support governance, he elevates it.”

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between fractional and interim?
Fractional is an ongoing, part-time arrangement with recurring leadership and reporting. Interim is time-boxed, usually 30 to 90 days, to stabilize the function and run a focused plan.
How is pricing set?
Pricing depends on scope, cadence and whether the engagement is interim, ongoing fractional or advisory. You get a written proposal with deliverables before work begins.
Will you also do the hands-on technical work?
No. This is executive leadership, governance and advisory. Technical implementation, engineering delivery, penetration testing and managed security services are out of scope.
Do you sell or resell technology products?
No. There is no tool sales, vendor reselling or vendor selection work, so the advice stays independent.
Can you work remotely?
Yes. Engagements are delivered remotely or on site across the United States. Stated focus areas include Maine (Bangor and Augusta), Richmond VA and the Chicago area.
Can you support our existing CIO or CISO instead of replacing them?
Yes. Advisory engagements support in-house leaders with coaching on board communication, an independent sounding board on priorities, and independent validation of what the board is told.
