Surface Solutions is a PVD coating job shop in Fridley, Minnesota. We apply high-performance thin-film hard coatings to firearms and firearm components for manufacturers and gunsmiths.
PVD stands for physical vapor deposition. The coating is applied in a vacuum chamber and bonds to the surface of the metal. We coat carbide and hardened tool steel every day, so we know how to handle precision parts that must still fit and function after coating.

What gun coatings do you offer?
We apply TiN, TiCN, AlTiN/TiAlN, CrN and our proprietary Alpha coating. Each has a different look and wear behavior. Tell us the application and we will recommend one.
Do you coat shotguns and pistols?
We coat firearms and firearm components, including pistols and other guns, along with individual parts like slides, bolts and small components. Send us details on your parts for a quote.
How much does gun coating cost?
Pricing depends on the part, the coating, the quantity and the prep needed. Send us your details and we will quote the job.
Can I ship parts from out of state?
Yes. We serve customers across the United States, with a core base in Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest, plus California, New York, Florida, Canada and Mexico.
Is PVD the same as Cerakote, powder coating or plating?
No. PVD is a thin-film hard coating applied in a vacuum chamber. We do not offer powder coating, painting, e-coating or electroplating.
Do you sharpen or machine parts too?
No. We coat parts that you or your supplier make and finish. Many tool resharpening services send work to us for re-coating after sharpening.
