Why engineers choose SensorData torque sensors

A model for every drive type

Reaction, rotary transformer, slip ring and true wireless Bluetooth versions. Flange, shaft, spline, sprocket and pulley drives are all available.

Built for fatigue and life testing

Fatigue rated construction stands up to life testing and test-to-failure work on drive-line components.

Accurate under real test loads

High torsional stiffness and low inertia keep readings clean. Accuracy runs from 0.1% to 1% depending on the model.

Custom when the catalog will not do

We design, engineer and manufacture in house, so special capacities, shafts and packages are straightforward.

Calibration included with our electronics

In-house calibration is free with SensorData electronics, or available for a fee with your own electronics.

Stand behind every standard sensor

All standard sensors carry a 100% satisfaction guarantee with a 60-day return policy.

Torque sensor models and specifications

Our torque sensor line covers static reaction measurement and rotating shaft measurement. Signal transfer options include rotary transformer (non-contact), slip ring, and true wireless Bluetooth at 2.4 GHz. Most bodies are machined from SAE 4340 alloy steel with a satin nickel finish.

If you also measure axial load or need torque plus thrust in one package, our multi-axis sensors handle both axes with less than 2% crosstalk. Tell us the capacity, speed and mounting, and we will point you to the right model or quote a custom design.

  • Capacity range: 50 oz-in to 1,000K lb-in across the product line
  • Speed ratings up to 35,000 rpm (T258) and 20,000 rpm (T259)
  • T258 meets Army-Navy standards AND 20002 and AND 10262
  • T171-231 dual range reaction sensor with TEDS per IEEE 1451.4, ranges 5/20 to 500/1.5K lb-ft and ±10 VDC output
  • SYNTH true wireless sensors transmit over 500 feet and are intrinsically safe in ZONE1 DIV 1 areas
  • BT4000 flange driver sends 16-bit data up to 100 feet, immune to EMI and ground loops
  • T360 series capacities from 150 to 500K lb-in, compatible with AC or DC electronics
  • Options include zero velocity speed sensor, angle encoder, on-board shunt calibration and TEDS chips
  • Works with AC carrier or DC strain gage signal conditioning, including our i200 electronics

Trusted in labs and on test stands

“I am happy to say the results so far are quite good and we are happy with the T-123 sensor - the data is very repeatable for different runs under the same rotation conditions”

“We have extensively been using your T123 sensors on our experiments. There are many things we learned from our measurement campaigns, and we are quite happy with the choice. The zero stability and repeatability of the data from the T123 sensors are extremely good, and gave us real confidence on the quality of the results.”
OKINAWA INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY{}
“Thank you very much! You were extremely helpful and responsive in a short amount of time. I believe we'll be doing business down the road. Thanks again”

Free consultation to match a standard model or scope a custom sensor for your setup.

  3. Get a written quote

You receive pricing, specs and a delivery schedule, plus cable and connector options.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a torque sensor cost?

Pricing is quote based. Cost depends on capacity, drive type, speed rating, signal method and any options such as a speed sensor or TEDS. Send your specs and we will price it.

Can you build a custom torque sensor?

Yes. We design, engineer and manufacture custom sensors in house, including non-standard capacities and configurations. Engineering consultation is part of the process.

Do I need separate electronics?

Most models work with AC carrier or DC strain gage signal conditioning, such as our i200. The T171-231 has proprietary on-board electronics with a ±10 VDC output.

Is calibration included?

In-house calibration is free when used with SensorData electronics. If you supply your own electronics, calibration is available for a fee. We also issue calibration certificates with traceable data.

Can a torque sensor work without cables?

Yes. SYNTH true wireless sensors transmit over 500 feet on 2.4 GHz Bluetooth, and the BT4000 flange driver transmits up to 100 feet. Both avoid cable runs and are immune to EMI.

Do you ship outside the United States?

Yes. We sell across the United States and internationally, including Europe and other global markets.
