Single Cavity Prototype Tooling
Prototype Tooling That Proves Your Part Before Production
Evok Polymers builds single cavity prototype tools so you can test real molded parts in your production material before you spend on a full production mold.
- Single cavity tooling for testing and design validation
- Mold flow and tolerance analysis before steel is cut
- 25 years of injection molding experience, US based team
5.0 Google rating from 10 reviews. Molded parts work for Polaris, Nautique, Rollerblade.

Why OEMs pick EVOK for prototype tooling
Test before you commit
A single cavity prototype tool gives you real molded parts in your production material, so you can validate fit and function before production tooling.
Problems found before steel is cut
We run mold flow and tolerance stack analysis, then set gate size, vent size and location, and make changes that minimize sink and flash.
Upfront, itemized costs
We share the cost structure behind your part so you can help optimize the design. Engineering and part design is $110/hr. Rapid prototypes run $100-$500 each.
A clear path to production
Our New Part Development pipeline moves you from concept feasibility and alpha prototypes to single cavity tooling, production tooling, first article and launch.
25 years of molding know-how
Founder Paul Dathe holds four U.S. utility patents and is a Six Sigma black belt, with 25+ years solving injection molding problems.
Built for demanding industries
We support powersports, medical device, semiconductor and flat panel, consumer products and packaging companies across the United States.
What our prototype tooling work includes
Prototype tooling sits in the Beta Development stage of our New Part Development pipeline. We complete single cavity tooling so you get production parts for testing and validation, without paying for a multi-cavity production mold first.
Before we cut steel, we review your 3D file for moldability and fix the details that cause scrap later. After the tool runs, you get a molding trial report so you know exactly how the part behaves.
- Single cavity prototype tooling for testing and design validation
- Mold design covering gate sizing, vent sizing and location, and changes to reduce sink and flash
- Mold flow analysis and tolerance stack analysis before tooling starts
- Part file review and moldability changes in CAD, SOLIDWORKS preferred, at $110/hr
- Rapid prototypes, cosmetic or functional, at $100-$500 per prototype
- Molding trial report with T1 sample evaluation before texturing, showing 90% of how the part will mold
- Material and texture selection guidance for your application
- First article inspection with 30 points per critical dimension per cavity and 5 per non-critical dimension

What happens after you send your details
We review your part
Send your 3D file or drawings. We check moldability, wall thickness, gates, vents, draft and texture, and redline what should change.
You get a clear quote
We itemize tooling and per-part cost so you can see the trade-offs and help optimize the design before you commit.
We build and prove the tool
We cut the single cavity tool, run a molding trial, evaluate T1 samples with you, then plan the move to production tooling and first article.
Frequently asked questions
How much does prototype tooling cost?
Tooling price depends on your part size, geometry, material and the features in the mold. We are upfront with costs and itemize them, so a quote shows you the tooling cost and the per-part price. Send your 3D file to get numbers for your part.
What is the difference between a rapid prototype and prototype tooling?
Rapid prototypes cost $100-$500 each and help you check size, fit and looks early. Prototype tooling is a single cavity mold that produces parts in your real production material and process, so you can test function and validate the design.
I only have a sketch. Can you still help?
Yes. Our engineering and part design service is $110/hr. We can start from your own 3D file or model the part from scratch, then make the changes needed for moldability and finalize the print and part number.
What do I get after the prototype tool runs?
You get a molding trial report, one of the most important steps in part qualification. T1 samples are evaluated before texturing and show about 90% of how the part will mold. We monitor fill speed, knit line locations, zone temperatures and cycle time.
Can the prototype tool lead to production?
Yes. Single cavity tooling is the Beta Development stage of our NPD pipeline. Next comes qualification with production tooling and first article, then stock builds and product launch.
Do you work with companies outside Minnesota?
Yes. We serve customers across the United States, with our engineering team based in the Twin Cities, Minnesota area.
