Why coat the water box instead of replacing the chiller

Cost-effective alternative to replacement

Coating-based restoration protects the water box you already have, at a fraction of chiller replacement cost.

Stops galvanic and pitting corrosion

The 100% solids epoxy adds a non-conductive barrier, so dissimilar metals no longer drive electrolytic corrosion.

Built for the high-flow zones

Inlet and outlet nozzles take constant impingement. Coating protects them from erosion and cavitation damage.

Minimal downtime

Quick-cure technology keeps your outage window short, so the chiller goes back in service sooner.

Smoother water passage

A smooth coated surface reduces turbulence and fouling and helps the unit run more efficiently.

One mobilization for the whole job

Best value when coordinated with tube sheet and tube end coating during a single planned outage.

What water box coating includes

Chiller water boxes, or end bells, sit at the highest-flow and highest-turbulence zone in the chiller. Inlet and outlet nozzles take constant impingement from circulating water, and the interior faces the same corrosive water chemistry attacking the tube sheet. Left alone, that leads to leaks, refrigerant cross-contamination risk, and eventual chiller replacement.

Our crews handle the full scope on site. Severely corroded interior areas are reconstructed first to restore capacity and structural integrity, because coating alone cannot save metal that is already gone.

  • Deep cleaning of biofilm, scale and corrosion deposits from water box interiors
  • Contained abrasive blasting to a white metal finish (SSPC-SP 5 / NACE No. 1)
  • Reconstruction of severely corroded interior areas and pitted end bells
  • 100% solids epoxy applied to all interior surfaces and end-bell components
  • Coating of inlet and outlet nozzles and the water box-to-tube-sheet seal area
  • Water blasting where chemical or environmental limits rule out dry abrasive
  • Coordinated with tube sheet and tube end coating in one mobilization
  • Scheduled during planned outage windows, or emergency response

What water box coating includes

How it works

  1. Tell us about your chiller

Send the basics: unit size, water box condition, site location and your planned outage window.

  2. We inspect on site

An engineer-led team assesses corrosion depth, nozzle condition and access, then scopes the repair work needed.

  3. You get a written estimate

Project-based pricing with the repair and coating scope spelled out. We schedule around your outage.

Frequently asked questions

How is water box coating priced?

Pricing is project based. It depends on chiller size, water box and end-bell condition, how much corrosion repair is needed, and site access. You get a free estimate after an on-site inspection.

Can you repair a water box that is badly pitted?

Yes. We reconstruct severely corroded interior areas to restore capacity and structural integrity before the 100% solids coating is applied. Coating over lost metal would fail early.

Do you also coat the tube sheet at the same time?

Yes. Water box coating is best value when coordinated with tube sheet and tube end coating in a single mobilization, so you only lose one outage window.

Where do you work?

On site across New England and New York: MA, NH, CT, RI, ME, VT and NY, including Boston metro, NYC and the five boroughs, Long Island and Westchester. We are based in Franklin, NH.

What surface prep do you use?

Contained abrasive blasting to a white metal finish, equivalent to SSPC-SP 5 / NACE No. 1, with containment to control dust, debris and media. Prep sets the life of the coating.

Can you respond to an active corrosion problem?

Yes. Work can be scheduled during a planned outage, and emergency mobilization for chiller corrosion and leak issues is available. Call (877) 427-0090.
