Why people bring their rollover here
One broker, many carriers
Ken Orenstein is independent. He compares contracts across top annuity carriers instead of selling one company's product.
No direct fee for annuity work
The initial consultation costs you nothing, and annuity brokerage is paid by commission from the issuing carrier.
Built around your income need
The conversation starts with the monthly income you want in retirement, then works back to the right annuity structure.
Plain-English contract review
Caps, participation rates, spreads, riders and surrender schedules are explained in writing before anything is placed.
Retirement picture, not one product
Social Security timing, a FERS or private pension, TSP or IRA assets and taxes are all part of the review.
Meet the way you want
Phone, virtual or in person at the Flemington, NJ office. Insurance licensed in many states.
What rolling a 401(k) or IRA into an annuity involves
A rollover moves money you already saved into a contract issued by an insurance company. The main question is which contract type matches your plan: money you want to keep conservative, money you want linked to an index, or money you want turned into a monthly payment stream now or at a future date.
Ken Orenstein works as an independent broker, so he can put contracts from different carriers side by side. Annuities are long-term retirement vehicles, not short-term investments, and they may include caps, restrictions, fees and surrender charges described in the contract. Any guarantee in a contract is backed by the financial strength and claims paying ability of the issuing carrier.
- Fixed annuities and multi-year guaranteed annuities (MYGAs) with 3, 5, 7 and 10 year terms
- Fixed indexed annuities linked to indexes such as the S&P 500, Russell 2000 or MSCI EAFE
- Immediate annuities (SPIAs) that turn a lump sum into monthly payments, single life or joint life
- Deferred annuities, deferred income annuities (DIAs) and QLACs inside an IRA for later income
- Income rider review, including GLWB and GMIB rider mechanics and payout ages
- 1035 exchange analysis if you already hold an annuity contract
- Carrier financial strength review using A.M. Best, Moody's, S&P and Fitch ratings
- Surrender schedules, free-withdrawal provisions and annuity laddering for liquidity planning

Frequently asked questions
Is there a minimum amount to work with you on a rollover?
Annuity placements typically start at $250,000 in investable assets available as a deployable lump sum. If your rollover is smaller, say so on the form and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
What does your help cost?
The initial consultation is no cost. For annuity brokerage there is no direct fee to you; Ken Orenstein is paid a commission by the issuing insurance carrier. Investment advisory work through Brookstone Capital Management is a monthly fee based on assets under management.
Will a rollover into an annuity trigger taxes?
That depends on whether the money is qualified or nonqualified and how the transfer is handled. The consultation covers qualified versus nonqualified status and the options available. We do not prepare taxes or draft legal documents, so we work alongside your tax professional.
Which annuity type is right for a 401(k) or IRA rollover?
It depends on whether you need income now or later and how much market exposure you want. Options reviewed include fixed annuities and MYGAs, fixed indexed annuities, immediate annuities (SPIAs), deferred income annuities and QLACs held inside an IRA.
I already own an annuity. Can it be moved?
Existing contracts can be reviewed through a 1035 exchange analysis, which compares your current contract's features and costs against current market contracts. You get the comparison before any decision is made.
Do you work with people outside New Jersey?
Yes. Insurance licenses are held in NJ, NY, NC, MD, VA, DC and many other states, and consultations happen by phone or video. Investment advisory work is licensed in NJ.
