Why work with an independent annuity broker
Many carriers, one conversation
Ken represents many of the top annuity carriers, including Aetna, Humana and TransAmerica, so you can compare contracts side by side.
Income-first planning
Retirement is an income question, not just a savings question. We map Social Security, pension and annuity income together.
The fine print explained first
Caps, participation rates, spreads, surrender schedules and rider terms are reviewed in writing before anything is placed.
No direct fee for brokerage
You do not pay Ken directly for annuity brokerage work. He is paid a commission by the issuing insurance carrier.
Built for the retirement transition
Most clients are pre-retirees 55-68 or retirees 65-73 replacing a paycheck after employment income stops.
Meet the way you prefer
Phone, virtual or in person at 203 Main St, Flemington, NJ. Licensed in NJ, NY, NC, MD, VA, DC and many other states.
Annuity types used for retirement income
An annuity is an agreement with an insurance company that provides a stream of payments. Which structure fits you depends on when you want income to start, how much market exposure you want, and whether income should continue for a spouse.
Ken Orenstein reviews your situation, your other income sources and your time horizon, then compares contracts across carriers. Annuities are long-term retirement income vehicles, not short-term investments.
- Fixed annuities and MYGAs with a set interest rate for a 3, 5, 7 or 10 year term
- Fixed indexed annuities linked to indexes such as the S&P 500, with principal protection from index losses
- Immediate annuities (SPIAs) that convert a lump sum into payments that start within about 30 days
- Deferred annuities and DIAs that let you set income to begin at a later date
- Lifetime income riders, including joint-life options for married couples
- Period certain, cash refund and COLA rider choices reviewed for SPIAs
- 1035 exchange analysis for an existing annuity you already own
- QLACs inside an IRA for later-retirement income and RMD planning

Frequently asked questions
What does the consultation cost?
The initial consultation is at no cost. There is no direct fee to you for annuity brokerage work. Ken Orenstein is paid a commission by the issuing insurance carrier.
Is there a minimum amount to work with?
Annuity clients typically have about $250,000 or more available as a deployable lump sum. If you are below that, this service may not be the right fit.
Which annuity type is right for me?
That depends on when you want income to start and your comfort with market exposure. Fixed and MYGA contracts are the most conservative, fixed indexed contracts link growth to an index with principal protection, and SPIAs start income quickly. The consultation covers each option.
Are the payments certain?
Annuity contract terms are backed by the financial strength and claims paying ability of the issuing insurance carrier. Carrier ratings from A.M. Best, Moody's, S&P and Fitch are reviewed as part of the selection process.
Can you help if I already own an annuity?
Yes. Ken reviews existing contracts and runs a 1035 exchange analysis to see whether moving to a different contract makes sense, including replacement reviews for variable annuities.
Where do you work with clients?
Consultations are by phone, virtual or in person in Flemington, NJ. Insurance licensing covers NJ, NY, NC, MD, VA, DC and many other states.
What should I know about fees and access to my money?
Annuity contracts may include caps, restrictions, fees and surrender charges. Free withdrawal provisions and surrender schedules are reviewed in writing before any placement.
